7月20日 Self-Evaluation
一学期ももう少しで終わり、私の教室では恒例のSelf-Evaluation Form（生徒さん一人一人、自分がどれだけ頑張ったか自己採
点してもらいます）のコメント書きも終わりました。 Self-Evaluation Formの最後の項目には「英語は楽しい」という項目があり、
ほとんどの生徒さんが楽しいと答えていたことにほっとしました。
来週からはアメリカよりお伝えします。
July 20th Self-Evaluation
Usually a Japanese school year consists of three semesters: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd semesters starting in April. Now it is the end of
the 1st semester. At the end of semesters, I let my students evaluate how they did in my classes for themselves. I finally
finished writing comments to each student. At the end of the self-evaluation form, almost all students wrote that English is
fun to learn. I was very happy for that.
From next week, I will write from the U.S.
7月18日 学校祭
遠軽高校の学校祭に生徒さんのダンスや劇などを見に行ってきました。この写真の看板は生徒さんが一生懸命に悩み
努力して仕上げたもので、実際最優秀賞をいただいたそうです (もちろんリーダーになって作った生徒さんに許可をい
ただいて、紹介させていただいております）。
この看板は昭和初期の食堂風にハヤシラ
イスを売っていた模擬店のものでした。 夕焼けを出すのに布を張ったり、色々な物が立体的に出ていて工夫がされて
いました。 すっごく綺麗ですよね！ダンスは高校生とは思えないほどの素敵なダンスでした。 劇はこんなことでもなけ
ればこんな青春もののストーリーの劇は見ることはないだろうなあと思いました。 本当に楽しかったです。
July 18th School Festival
I visited Engaru High School Festival the other day. Look at this
signboard! They put a lot of effort into it, and they got first prize ( I
got permission from the leader because she is my student). The
signboard was for a snack bar. Their theme was an old restaurant in
the early Showa era. They put fabric to show the beautiful sunset,
and some of the stuff on the signboard looked three dimensional.
Isn't it beautiful?
The dance was great. They did not look like high school students
anymore. I could also watch some plays. The plays were very much
teenager dramas. If I did not have this opportunity, I would not have
seen one like that. I really enjoyed my time very very much.

6月30日 私のスモッキングバッグ
やっと完成しました！ 一ヶ月以上もかかってしまいました。 スモッキングをするのは初めてだったのであらかじめ小さめな布
で練習してから本番の布に刺繍しました。 持ち手はマクラメというやり方で、これも初めて。 何度も練習した後に2種類のマク
ラメで作ってみました。 参考にしたのはアンナ クラ－リさんの「イタリアから届いたスモッキングバッグ」 です。 もちろん自分
なりにいろいろとアレンジしました。 中の赤い巾着部分は30年以上前の古いタイシルクでできたスカートをほどいた布です。
スモッキングは大変だけど、出来上がるととても豪華なバッグになりました。 夏のお出かけに連れて行こうと思います。
June 30th My Lovely Smocking Bag
Finally I made it!! It took me more than a month to finish this bag. It was my first time to do smocking, so I needed to
practice with smaller fabrics first. The handle part is also different from what I used to make. It is called Macrame. I also
needed to practice a lot to do it right. Then I made two kinds of Macrame. The book I referenced was "Smocking bags from
Italy". Sure I changed a lot. The inside red fabric is Thai silk.. It was an old dress fabric from more than 30 years ago. It was
not easy to do smocking, but it turned out to be a beautiful bag. I will take it with me wherever I go this summer.
6月28日 新作コスモスブックカバー
遠軽コスモス園のショップに置く新作コスモスブックカバー
が出来ました。 コスモスプリントの生地を使い、ドロシーマ
マからいただいたアメリカ60－70年代のビンテージボタンを
しおり部分につけました。 7月より780円で販売致します。
(ネットショップでは取扱いませんが、興味のある方はご連
絡ください。)
June 28th Cosmos Book Cover
Cosmos book covers will be sold starting from next month
in the Engaru Cosmos Field shop. With the cosmos printed
fabric, I also used the vintage buttons Dorothy gave me to
mark a page. They will be 780 yen. ( I won't put them up in
the website, but if you are interested in them, please let
me know.)
6月26日 赤ほっけ
湧別の知り合いの漁師さんを訪ねると、めったに食べられない赤ほっけ
をくれました。 赤ほっけは一匹一匹船の上で鮮度を保つために血抜き
をするので、とても手間がかかるそうです。 ほっけの刺身はめったに食
べれません。オホーツクのほっけとオホーツクのふぐをいただいたので、
父に刺身にしてもらいました。 ちょうど札幌からお友達が来ていたの
で、おいしいものを一緒に食べることができました！
ちなみにこの赤ほっけ、どっちの料理ショーに出たそうです。
June 26th Red Atka Mackerel Fish
When my parents and I visited their friend, a fisherman, he gave us
unusual Red Atka Mackerel Fish. On the ship, they kill each fish and
take blood out to keep them fresh. That is why we can eat them raw.
We usually must eat Atka Mackerel baked. As we also got a Globefish
from the Sea of Okhotsk, my father made sashimi (prepared to eat
raw). When my friend came from Sapporo, we could eat these fish
together. They were very good.
This kind of Red Atka Mackerel Fish from Okhotsk is very unusual, so
one of the Japanese TV cooking shows used this as a rare fish dish in
one of their programs. .
6月16日 一つ学んだこと
どんな母親でも自分の子供を守ろうと思う気持ちに変わりはないと思う。 私の母の友達の娘さんに最近赤ちゃんが生まれ
た。 母の友達は3人の娘がいて、一番上の娘さんは、自分の子供を他の人に抱かせないようにして育てた。 母として、子供
を守りたい気持ちが働いたのだと思う。
おばあちゃんである私の母の友達は、もう一人の娘さんに赤ちゃんが生まれた時、こう言ったそうだ。
「誰かが赤ちゃんを抱っこさせてとか、赤ちゃんに触れたいという思いの人がいたら、喜んで抱っこしてもらいなさい。 抱っこさ
れた分だけ、その子にみんなからの愛情をもらえるんだから、幸せなことなんだよ。」と。
その娘さんが我が家に来ると、みんなで抱っこしてあげる。 赤ちゃんを抱っこすると私たちも幸せな気持ちになるし、私たちも
本当にその子に愛情を注いでいる。
自分の子供を守りたいために、他の人を邪険にしてしまう母親は多くいる。 悲しいことに、そうすると、みんながその子に愛情
を注ぎたくても、そういったチャンスすら与えてもらえない。
私には子供がいないので、私にチャンスを与えてもらえないのは本当に悲しい。しかし、もし私に子供ができたら、私は絶対自
分の子供をみんなに抱っこしてもらいたいと思う。 自分の子供に愛情を注がれる機会を与えることが母として私にできることで
はないかと思うからだ。
June 16th Children with love
All mothers want to protect their children.. Recently, one of my mother's friends had another grandchild. She has three
daughters. When her first daughter had a baby, she tried not to let lots of people hold and touch him . I think she might have
wanted to protect her child from others.
When another one of her daughters had a baby, she said to her, "If someone wants to touch your baby or hold your baby, you
should let them to do so happily. The baby will receive as much love as possible while they hold her, so it would be a lucky
moment for the baby."
Whenever her daughter with the baby comes to my house, we always hold her and surely give love. We also become happy
holding her.
Sadly, there are also many mothers who do not want to accept others. Then we cannot even have a chance to give love to
their children.
As I do not have a child, when I face this situation, I become very sad. However, I learned, if I have a child, I will let anybody
hold my child with pleasure. My child will receive plenty of love, and that is what I can do for my child, I believe.
6月14日 四つ葉のクローバー
色々なことがある最近だが、今日、一人の生徒さんが四葉のク
ローバーを私に摘んできてくれた。 愛用している英和辞書に挟
もうと、ページを開くと、偶然にもshamrockのページで、クロー
バーの絵が描かれていた。 クローバーを摘んできてくれた彼女
の優しい気持ちと四つ葉のクローバーの幸運さを信じてみようと
思いました。
June 14th Four-leaf Clover
Recently, I had so many things happen at once, so I have been
very frustrated. Today, one of my students brought a four-leaf
clover for me. When I opened my dictionary to place it inside,
the page had a "shamrock" picture as a coincidence. I want
to believe her kindness and the power of the lucky four-leaf
clover.
我が家の石けん
我が家はそれぞれ、自分の好みの石けんがあります。 私の夫はラベンダーやカモ
ミール入りのオリーブオイルのたっぷり入ったはちみつ石けんやホホバオイルが入っ
た石けんが大好きです。 私の父はノンオリーブの椿油と米油でできた石けんしか
使いません。 私の母はしっとり石けんや竹炭が大好きです。 私はマカデミアナッ
ツオイルの入った石けんやチョコレート、ヒノキの香りの石けんが大好きです。
今回初めて作ったナッツの石けんは、エッセンシャルオイルが入っているわけではな
いのに、たっぷりとマカデミアナッツオイルを入れたせいで、ナッツの香りがほのか
にして、軽いのに保湿性も高く、私好みになりました。 いつも温泉に入りに行くと
きは我が家はみんなそれぞれ好きな石けんを忘れず持っていきます。 私はいつも毛
穴大掃除用に竹炭石けんを持っていっていましたが、次回からは竹炭石けんにナッツ
の石けんを加えようと思っています。
Our favorite bars of soap
In my family, each one has his or her favorite soap. My husband likes the honey olive soap
with herbs or jojoba soap. My father only uses the soap made from camellia oil and rice oil.
My mother loves plain olive soap and the soap with bamboo charcoal powder. I love the
soap with macadamia nut oil, chocolate soap, and olive soap with cypress scent. Last time,
as my first try, I made a soap without olive oil but with plenty of macadamia nut oil. Though
I did not put any essential oils as scent, it smells nutty. It turned out to be a nutty bar. I
love it because it is light but moisturizes my skin. Whenever we go to a spa, we always bring
our favorite bars. I usually bring the soap with bamboo-charcoal powder to cleanse the
pores. However, next time, I will add one more bar: the nutty bar. Ha!

6月1日 今まで。。。
日本語では“私は今までイタリアに行ったことがあります。”というように、肯定文
で今までという言葉を使うのは普通である。 英語では今までという経験を表す
表現は"ever"という。 しかし、英語で“今まで”という言葉、everは、肯定文で
は使わないのが普通だ（俗語の会話表現として"never ever...."と使うことはあ
るが）。 あるクラスで完了形を教えた時、私は、“everは、疑問文で使ってもい
いけど、肯定文では使っちゃだめだからねえ！”と教えた。
先日、中学生は中間テストのため、たくさんの問題を解いてテスト勉強をしてい
た。 すると、一人が、“えーっ、これ、どうしたらいいの？”と困っている。 なん
だろう？と見てみると、ある問題集に完了形の問題があり、普通の肯定文を
everを用いて、完了形にしましょう という問題を発見！ うちの子（生徒さん）は
“everは肯定文で使わないから、この問題どうやって解いたらいいの？”とい
う。 他の子たちも“うわっ、本当だ。どうすんの、これ？”っという。この問題を疑
問に思ったこの子達ってすごい！！と痛感しながら私はこう言った。“確かに
everは普通、肯定文で使いません。 でもそのことを知らない人がこういった問
題を作ってしまうこともあります。 そういう場合は、自分はこの問題を作った人
よりちょっぴり利口だとほくそ笑みましょう。”
それにしてもこの子たち、教えたことを理解してちゃんと応用していることに私
はとても感動した。
June 1st Present Perfect: ever
"Imamade" is a Japanese word that means "ever" in English. As a Japanese
expression, it is usual to say "I have ever been to Italy." However, in English,
you don't use "ever" in affirmative sentences except when saying "I have
never ever....." While I was teaching my students "present perfect", I taught
them that they could not use "ever" in affirmative present perfect sentences
but only in interrogative present perfect sentences.
The other day, as the middle school students had a mid-term exam, they
had been studying . My kids (my students) said, " Whatttt?
What should I do with this?" When I looked at the paper, one of the
question said, "Please change to present perfect form using 'ever'". It was
not an interrogative sentence, but it was an affirmative sentence.
As I taught they should not use "ever" in affirmative sentences, they
felt strange with this question. I said to them, "Well, as you know,
you don't use 'ever' in affirmative sentences. However, you sometimes see
these questions made by the people who didn't know much about it. When you
see these questions, you can chuckle in your mind and enjoy it thinking you
know better than the person who made this."
Anyway I was very proud of my kids who learned so well!!
