アイルランドの旅 その２
Traveling in a wagon
One family from south France traveled with this wagon and a
horse. They said they flew from south France to Ireland, and they
rented the wagon and a horse to travel Ireland. While we were
driving, we saw some wagons with horses. Traveling with a wagon
and a horse would be a great way to feel how summer in Ireland is
beautiful.
幌馬車での旅行
南フランスからの家族は写真にある幌馬車と馬一頭でアイルランド
を旅していました。 南フランスからアイルランドへは飛行機を使
い、アイルランドでこの幌馬車と馬を借りたそうです。 実際、車で
運転していて、何度か同じような幌馬車と馬を見ました。 幌馬車を
使っての旅はアイルランドの夏を満喫するのにもってこいかもしれ
ませんね。
August 1st to 3rd Ballynahinch Castle
We wanted to stay in an old castle hotel while we were in Ireland. In Connemara, there is a beautiful castle hotel,
Ballynahinch Castle. It was built in the 1750s and has 28 rooms. We stayed there for a few days. At the entrance of
the gate, there was an outstanding white building which is called a "gate house." In old times, it used to control the
access to the castle. Then there was the narrow long road leading to the castle.
When we went into the room, we were astonished to see the view of a vast river. Even from the window, you can
sometimes see fish splashing and jumping completely out of the water to eat flying bugs. In the room, there were a
small box of Irish chocolate and bottles of Irish still water and sparkling water to welcome us.
Strolling around the castle was gorgeous. Along the river, there is a path. You can walk while hearing fish splashing or
the sounds of the river running. There is also a path into a forest. It is just like seeing stories from the Brothers
Grimm. While you are in the forest, you feel like you are in one of the Grimm stories. When I thought about the
existence of the forest in the stories, I remembered myself reading the Grimm stories and imagining I were in the story
when I was a child. It was an unforgettable view.

Dinners
At Ballynahinch Castle, we had dinners at the pub and the
restaurant. The first night, we ate at the pub with Irish beer
and cider. We had smoked salmon and beef with soda bread.
After that, we drank French coffee (coffee and brandy), and
Bailey's coffee (coffee and Bailey's cream). They were
wonderful.
Next day, we had a French full course meal at the restaurant.
All of the foods with red wine were great. Though I did not
bring the camera for the dinner, we dressed better. I wore the
dress made from organic cotton with Japanese indigo dye
(kayano). It is a handmade dress. The maker grew indigo and
dyes by herself. I also wore a shawl I knitted. Actually I use
this shawl a lot for this trip. It is light and warm.
ディナー
バリナヒンク城で、一日目はホテルのパブで食事をした。アイリッ
シュビール、りんごのお酒サイダーを片手にスモークサーモンや
ビーフを食べ、最後はブランデー入りのフレンチコーヒーやベイ
リーズのアイリッシュクリームの入ったコーヒーを飲む。 すべて
とてもおいしかったです。
次の日はホテルのレストランでフレンチのフルコース。 カメラを
持っていかなかったので写真はないけれども、日本の藍を着て
いきました。 藍工房 かや野さんの藍染の手作りワンピースで
す。 藍を育てて染め、手作りでお洋服を作られていて、私のお
気に入り。 私が以前編んだショールもしました。 実際、この
ショール肌寒いアイルランドの旅でとても重宝しました。 軽くて
暖かくて、いいんですよ。

アイルランドの旅の目的の一つは古城ホテルに泊まるだった。 アイルランドの西、コネマラ地方にバリナヒンク城があ
る。 1750年代に建てられたこの古城は28部屋あり、ホテルとして今は使われている。 入り口の門を通るとすぐにゲー
トハウスと呼ばれる真っ白な建物があり、当時はお城の出入りを管理していたようだ。 ゲートハウスを過ぎると細く長い
道が続き、お城にたどり着く。
３階のお部屋に入ると、窓から大きな川が全望できるすばらしい景色に圧倒された。 窓越しに時として川の水面近くを
飛んでいる虫を食べるため魚が空中にジャンプするのが見れることがある。 お部屋にはアイルランドで作られたチョ
コレートとミネラルウォーターが置かれていた。 ホテル側のおもてなしがその甘いチョコレートの中に感じられる。
お城の辺りを散歩するのはとてもすばらしい。 川に沿って小道があり、歩いていると川の流れや魚がジャンプする音が
聞こえる。 森へ続く小道もあり、そこはまるでグリム童話に出てきそうな森。 その小道を歩いていると自分がグリム童
話のお話の中に紛れ込んだ錯覚に陥る。 本の中でしか知らなかった景色が実際に目の前に存在した時、幼少時、絵
本の読んでいろいろなことを想像していた自分を思い出した。 それは忘れることのできない景色となった。
